What is this newsletter about?

I need a place to put my business and Tech-related observations.

Currently writing about 1) the business of Data, 2) the productisation journey of professional services firms, and 2) digital media industry.

The concepts and ideas here will be most relevant for business operators, product managers, and any curious cat who wants to acquire and refine their lenses on these areas.

I define technology as any system (digital or analog) that enables human to reach certain goal, and business as the activity within a system built to generate profit by producing or buying and selling products.

Why the complicated name?

Velociraptor → Philoso-raptor (the meme) → Philosorap-Tech.

Philosoraptech (n) - a place to ask questions and perceive a slice of reality in Tech.

I am aware that philosophy gets an undeserved bad rep within the “hard and cold” realm of tech and business to be this abstract, impractical, and inactionable discipline when it is really about asking questions.

Business and tech are filled with interesting problems and problems are really questions seeking answers. Questions that remain unsatisfactorily answered indicate badly posed questions. Whatever result you’re getting trickles down from the questions you’re asking, consciously or not.

What are we not working on but we should? What do customers want, why do they buy? What am I not seeing, why are we losing market share? What market positioning should we take? What do we even sell?

Here I want to make sure I am asking all the interesting and important questions about the Tech I do and see and how they apply in the world of business.

Who are you?

Quick background: I’m an engineer by training, sales manager by necessity, and philosopher by birth. I have spent roughly 2/3 of my 15 years of career in the data collection, extraction, and engineering space in multiple technical and non technical roles. The other third I spent in risk management, advertising, and media monitoring space.

Everything I share here is my personal opinion & perspective and don’t represent the position of any of my previous employers.

How often do I need to check back?

Currently planning this to be a weekly dispatch, learning to go at a sustainable pace. Just leave your email below and you’ll get updates directly to your inbox.
